What are hexagon lights?
Hexagon lights are linked honeycomb LED cells that mount to the ceiling and throw even light from many points at once, so shadows cancel out and lux stays consistent wall to wall. A hexagon lighting layout suits any space where you work under your own shadow. You will also see them called hexagon ceiling lights or simply hex lights; the names all describe the same ceiling-mounted system. The HexSpace range runs from a compact 2-grid kit to a 39-grid commercial layout, the widest modular range sold in Australia (most rivals stop near 25 grids or fixed sizes), in four white colour temperatures.
Kit sizes and prices: 2-grid to 39-grid
Hexagon lights in Australia cost from $219 (2-grid) to $2,599 (39-grid), depending on grid count and floor area. HexSpace sells eight ready-made sizes of one modular system; every kit links together, can be expanded later, and every price is listed. Match the footprint to your floor area:
| Kit | Footprint | Best-for area (guide) | From (AUD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-Grid | 1.63m x 0.95m | Up to 4 m² | $219 |
| 3-Grid | 2.5m x 1m | 4 to 6 m² | $329 |
| 5-Grid | 2.4m x 1.6m | 6 to 10 m² | $369 |
| 8-Grid | 2.4m x 2.6m | 10 to 14 m² | $629 |
| 11-Grid | 3.3m x 2.4m | 14 to 18 m² | $729 |
| 14-Grid | 4.0m x 2.4m | 18 to 25 m² | $929 |
| 23-Grid | 4.2m x 3.9m | 25 to 35 m² | $1,299 |
| 39-Grid | 5.3m x 5.0m | 35 m² and up | $2,599 |
Big ceilings step up to the large hexagon light bar series, and if no standard kit fits, the free custom quote tool designs a honeycomb layout to your measurements. For the exact lumen output of any kit, see its product page.
How many hexagon lights do I need?
Match the kit footprint to your floor area. A single garage of roughly 18 to 25 square metres suits the HexSpace 14-Grid kit ($929, 4.0m x 2.4m); a double garage around 25 to 35 square metres suits the 23-Grid ($1,299, 4.2m x 3.9m). Zones under about 6 square metres start with a 2-grid or 3-grid, and spaces over 35 square metres run the 39-Grid or a custom layout. As a guide, drawing on AS/NZS 1680.0 and the IES Lighting Handbook: storage 80-160 lux, general DIY 300-500 lux, workshop and bench work 500-1,000 lux, detailing and inspection 1,000-2,000 lux.
Colour temperature: 6500K daylight by default
HexSpace hexagon lights ship in four fixed colour temperatures: 3000K warm, 4000K neutral, 5000K cool and 6500K daylight. Each temperature is a separate kit, not a switchable setting, so pick the tone before ordering. For garages, gyms, workshops and detailing, 6500K daylight is the default and best-selling choice, and the high-CRI LEDs keep paint colour, labels and fine detail reading true. Choose 4000K or 3000K where a warmer look matters.
3000K warm
Soft, lounge-style glow
4000K neutral
Everyday white
5000K cool
Crisp task white
6500K daylight
Default and best-seller
Looking for colour-changing effects? That is a different product family: see the separate hexagon RGB lights collection. Everything on this page is fixed white light.
Install: plug-in or hardwired, surface-mount or suspended
Plug-in vs hardwired
Most HexSpace kits run on a standard 240V three-pin plug, so a single power point gets you running for a plug-in setup. The same kit also supports hardwired installation for a permanent finish; hardwiring is electrical work for a licensed electrician under AS/NZS 3000; our find-an-installer page can help you locate one. You can start plug-in now and hardwire later without changing kits.
Connectors, light bars and suspension
The hexagon light bars join with snap-lock connectors, which keeps the system linkable and expandable. For ceilings 4 metres or lower, surface-mount the grid directly to the ceiling. Above 4 metres, use the suspension kit (1-metre drop $5, 3-metre drop $8) to bring the lights down to the optimal working height of about 3 metres. Full steps are in the installation guide.
Hexagon lights vs LED battens, panels and imported kits
Hexagon lights differ from a single LED batten by spreading light from many linked points across the ceiling, which cancels the shadows a lone strip throws over benches and cars; a batten is cheaper but lights one narrow line. LED panels and oysters give flat light in fixed sizes that cannot scale, and imported hexagon kits often use plastic housings with no Australian certification.
| Option | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Single LED batten | Cheap light over a bench | One narrow strip, heavy shadows |
| LED panel / oyster | Flat general light | Fixed size, no scaling |
| Imported hexagon kit | Lowest price | Often plastic, usually no SAA/RCM, limited AU warranty |
| HexSpace hexagon system | Even, scalable, certified whole-ceiling coverage | Higher upfront cost than a batten |
Why choose HexSpace
Every HexSpace system is SAA and RCM certified and listed under EESS Responsible Supplier registration E20158, verifiable on the national Responsible Supplier register; most imports and stick-on gaming panels carry none. The aluminium housing sheds heat in hot Australian garage and shed roof spaces, protecting the 50,000+ hour LED rating, and every kit is backed by up to a 5-year Australian warranty with claims handled by the local Australian support team via the contact page. HexSpace kits have gone into garages, home gyms, workshops, detailing bays and barbershops across Australia; see real installs in the gallery or read the full HexSpace story. Shipping is free Australia-wide over $300.

Hexagon lights FAQ
Are hexagon lights the same as honeycomb lights?
Yes. Honeycomb lights is another name for the same hexagon LED ceiling systems, named for the honeycomb pattern of the linked hexagons. Hex lights, hexagonal lights and hexagon ceiling lights are the same product too.
Are these the same as Nanoleaf or smart RGB hexagon panels?
No. Those are small stick-on smart panels for decorating a gaming wall. HexSpace hexagon lights are full-size, hardwired or plug-in LED ceiling systems built to light a garage, gym, workshop or studio.
How much do hexagon lights cost in Australia?
Hexagon lights in Australia cost from $219 for a 2-grid kit up to $2,599 for the 39-grid commercial layout, scaling with grid count and floor area covered. Shipping is free on orders over $300.
How many hexagon lights do I need?
Match the kit footprint to your floor area. A single garage of roughly 18 to 25 square metres suits the 14-Grid kit ($929, 4.0m x 2.4m); a double garage around 25 to 35 square metres suits the 23-Grid ($1,299, 4.2m x 3.9m). Smaller rooms start with a 2-grid or 3-grid, and the 39-Grid covers spaces over 35 square metres.
Do I need an electrician to install hexagon lights?
Plug-in kits connect to a standard power point, so most customers set them up themselves. Hardwired installations are also supported and should be completed by a licensed electrician.
How long do hexagon lights last?
The LEDs are rated for 50,000+ hours, well over a decade at typical use, helped by the aluminium housing that sheds heat in hot Australian roof spaces, and backed by up to a 5-year Australian warranty.
Can I expand or link the system later?
Yes. The range is modular, so you can start with a smaller kit and link on more grids with the snap-lock connectors, or add a suspension kit, without replacing what you already have.
Are hexagon lights certified for use in Australia?
Yes. Every HexSpace system is SAA and RCM certified for Australia and New Zealand, and listed under EESS Responsible Supplier registration E20158, which anyone can verify on the national Responsible Supplier register. Most marketplace imports and stick-on gaming panels carry no equivalent listing.
Do you ship hexagon lights Australia-wide?
Yes. HexSpace ships Australia-wide, and shipping is free on orders over $300.
